starrbar: A green pixel character wearing glasses and grinning happily. (Default)
Every week, my friends and I have a group stream of either a game, movie, show, etc. Recently, we watched Arcane, which I was ecstatic to show them! Next, we watched the first Austin Powers movie, and I only remember seeing clips of those movies as a kid, so much of it was new to me. And it was suitably hilarious.

It also has this scene in the middle that drops all the gross and pervy humor and is JUST mega freakin wholesome??? Like, WHAT!? It was genuinely sweet, like it's just Austin and his girl hanging out, doing normal friendship things. I even took note of the fact that it must be quite a FEAT for Austin to play Twister with a woman and not even be thinking about sex. Then they jump onto the bed and Austin keeps making bad puns, but Vanessa is laughing her ass off, and Austin notices that she's drunk.

She tries to kiss him, and he says it wouldn't be right, which really puts into perspective how none of his other advances are intended to be predatory. He's just kinda blurring out shit, but he never acts on his lust if someone rejects him. Pfff there's even an early scene where he makes a failed pass after Vanessa JUST told him no, and he says, "I was just trying to get a riiiiiise out of you! For shits and giggles!" (Obviously it's pretty harassy if applies to real life, but idk, this movie is pretty goofy and most of it isn't meant to be taken so seriously. I recognize that these are characters with fabricated personalities that are capable of defying real world patterns.)

Anyway, every time Austin says, "Oh no, I fell!" in this fuckin flippant, silly tone, I lose my shit. Why is that so funny? Why is that kinda wholesome also? Huh?????

Genuinely loved the experience hahaha!
